Mountain Bike Bolivian Death Road Drops 11800 Feet! It’s called the Death Road, and you’ll find it in Bolivia. It was given that name in 1995 by the Inter-American Development Bank. Its local name is “Camino de la muerte”. It’s been made popular by Gravity Bolivia, whose slogan of “Gravity Assisted Mountain Biking” is literally true in this case. Riders start 4700 meters (15400 feet) and drop to 1100 meters (3600 feet). Along the way they tackle the most dangerous part of the road, a section cut into the side of a mountain. There are drops of 1000 meters (3300 feet) on one side, and rock overhangs and waterfalls on the right. Not for the faint-hearted!
